Instruments Of The Orchestra

An ORCHESTRA is an instrumental ensemble containing sections of STRINGS,BRASS,WOODWIND and PERCUSSION instruments.


A SYMPHONY orchestra usually contains about 100 members.There are also smaller orchestra containing about 50 members or lesser and known as CHAMBER orchestra.


STRING SECTION

The string section is the largest body of the  orchestra and consists of bowed string instruments of the violin family. It normally comprises five sections: The First Violins, The Second Violins, The Violas, The Cellos, And The Double Basses.String instruments are musical instruments that produce sound from vibrating strings




WOODWIND SECTION

woodwind instrument is a musical instrument which produces sound when the player blows air against a sharp edge or through a reed, causing the air within its resonator (usually a column of air) to vibrate. Most of these instruments are made of wood but can be made of other materials, such as metals or plastics.

Cor anglais OR English Horn

Bassoon

BRASS SECTION

brass instrument is a musical instrument whose sound is produced by sympathetic vibration of air in a tubular resonator in sympathy with the vibration of the player's lips.Brass instrument" should be defined by the way the sound is made, as above, and not by whether the instrument is actually made of brass. Thus one finds brass instruments made of wood, like the alp horn, the cornett, while some woodwind instruments are made of brass, like the saxophone.

PERCUSSION INSTRUMENTS


percussion instrument is a musical instrument that is sounded by being struck or scraped by a beater, or struck, scraped or rubbed by hand, or struck against another similar instrument. The percussion family is believed to include the oldest musical instruments.

Timpani


Timpani, or kettledrums, are musical instrument  in the percussion family. A type of drum, they consist of a skin called a head stretched over a large bowl traditionally made of copper. They are played by striking the head with a specialised drum stick called a timpani stick or timpani mallet.
