Music they say is the speech of angels!...how else could one describe the music of the Indian musical genius called Ilayaraja?
He is one of the greatest composers that the world has seen or will probably ever see...
Ilaiyaraaja is an Indian film composer,singer and lyricist. He is regarded as one of the finest music composers in India.To date, he has compsed over 4500 songs and provided film scores for more than 950 Indian films in various languages in a career spanning more than 30 years, particularly being acclaimed for his background scoring for Indian films.
Childhood



Ilaiyaraaja was born on June 2, 1943 in a  small village “Pannaipuram”, located in Theni district of Tamil Nadu, India. He was originally named Gnanadesikan by his father Ramaswamy and mother Chinnathayammal. Ilaiyaraaja spent his childhood in the rural area of Pannaipuram, which sowed the seeds of music in him. He was well acquainted with the range of Tamil folk music prevalent in the place.




Ilayaraja made an entry into film music direction in 1976, by composing the songs and background score for the Tamil film “Annakkili”.
