Devotional Music Of Maestro Ilaiyaraaja Sir
I would like to present some of the devotional numbers of Raja sir. This section shows that he is called truly as a maestro because his genius is evident in all genres of music!
The first that comes into my mind is naturally the maestro's Thiruvasakam.
Thiruvasakam in symphony is an oratorio (An oratorio is a large musical composition including an orchestra, a choir, and soloists) composed and orchestrated by Raja sir.
Thiruvasakam is a collection of ancient Tamil poems written by Manikkavachakar ( a great Tamil poet who wrote sacred Saivite hymns) . They were transcribed partially in English by American lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The oratorio was performed by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra.
The next is 'Janani Janani 'from the movie 'Thai Moogambikai'.The song starts with a verse from the famous hymn 'Soundarya Lahiri' by Adi Sankaracharya.
Follows is 'Bikshai Paatiram' from his album 'Rajavin Ramanamalai' which was later used in the movie 'Naan Kadavul'.I shall post both.
The video that follows is another melody from the same movie.
The next is the genius's 'Geetha Vazhipadu'
Another melody from the album 'Geethanjali'
The next is from the album 'Ganesha Bhoojangam'
This is then followed by another song in the genius's own voice in praise of Goddess Kamakshi of Kancheepuram. The tune was again adopted in the movie 'Aathma' as 'Vaarayo' .Both are pasted below.
How can a blog do without the big hit song 'Sri Rana Ranganathanin' from the movie 'Mahanadhi'
A song on Lord Ayyapan in his own characteristic style.
A folk styled song from the movie 'Aranmalai Kili'
Next is a masterpiece sung by the maestro himself 'Ninnaicharanadainthen' a poem by the great Tamil poet Bahathiyar. This is from the movie on the same poet 'Bharathi'.
This list is not exhaustive. These are a few of the enormous works of our own maestro Ilayaraja sir.
